L50: Kilowatt

FIFTY!!

I'd wanted to go to Laszlo as my #50, but it was raining and I didn't feel like walking around and getting even wetter post-dinner. Angelina contends I've been here before, but I don't think so. I distinctly remember going to The Attic when we were with my cousins. Much smaller bar and a DJ I quite liked.

Jason really likes this bar because as soon as we walked in, he noticed a very well-behaved spuds mackenzie sitting on the floor. A little further back was a pretty brown pitbull. Even better, they had Downtown Brown on tap! Downtown Brown always reminds me of my first trip up to Humboldt. My friend and I were there to visit the college but somehow ended up at our very first Full Moon rave.

After this, everyone left for Double Dutch and I headed home. I'd had enough of wet jeans.

DONE!!

I thought I'd been here before, but I guess not. The bartender was incredibly slow and never sped up even when the bar filled up (half were our folks). I had a $9 hot buttered rum that I didn't like much. It was raining, but I left in search of some dinner.

Edit: Shortly after this posting, someone from Elixir IM'd me, offering to make good on my poor experience. I actually didn't have a really bad experience--definitely not the kind that makes me swear I'll never go back. We'll be back. My only comment was that the bartender didn't seem to care that everyone was waiting for a beer. However, she was nice. We'll be back...if I lived in the neighborhood, it would be my Pig & Whistle replacement. I also appreciate their PR efforts.

Not liking the hot buttered rum had nothing to do with the bar or the bartender. Its a drink I've never ordered before, tried, and will never order again.

I recall liking this bar except for the fact they allow smoking inside. Bill's big mouth almost got him into a fight. But nothing Jamie + a free shot can't smooth over. The bartender, Cesar, was quite nice. 2 shots of jager and a magner's = too many drinks for the night. I also stuck my finger through some guy's ear plug. Good thing I'm a girl and they were friendlies.

After spending too much time here, my hair reeked of smoke. We moved on to Ace's but I wasn't seeing straight anymore, we had only had oysters & brussels sprouts for dinner. It was time to go home. I hopped into a cab and abandoned my cronies.

This night ended with vomit.

For some reason, I thought I'd been here before, but when I walked in, it looked completely unfamiliar. So, I guess I've never been here before. Glass of champagne that the bartender made fun of me for. We played some pool, Bill got too rowdy, and we left.

Hemlock Tavern wasn't open yet, but O'Reilly's was open...AND serving $1 oysters for happy hour! Extra bonus points because they had pancetta & brussels sprouts. Topped with two glasses of tasty champagne, I was happy with this establishment.

MinhCao & Jamie joined us at this point. 4 dozen oysters later, it was time for the next bar.

875 Geary St (at Larkin St)San Francisco, CA 94109 (415) 673-3148

At 4:30, the doors unlocked just as Bill and I strolled by. Had an extremely cold Fat Tire on tap and left. The only other person in there was a very old man who was definitely a regular. Him and the bartender were exchanging VHS tapes and pondering the missing parking meter out front that had been there just the night before.

I was expecting this to be more like the homeless bar we happened upon in Chinatown (#28 Grasslands Lounge). However, this was just a basic dive bar. No homeless people, no trash. Bummer.
